Microsoft released the new taskbar option the company has been working on since the start of the year. The new option is called ‘news and interests’ and will immediately be visible as a small preview / weather icon in the taskbar which you can click to display a full interactive pop-up containing news, weather, actions, sports, traffic and other informative information in one summary location. A little more informative than what you find in the Live Tiles of the Start menu.
Unlike the Start menu, it separates itself from the Metro theme of things Windows has carried since Windows 8 and follows along with the other widgets and taskbar options like Cortana, Search, People, and Timeline. In fact, it takes on a visual familiar to Apple’s Access Control Center in iOS.
The new feature is slowly rolling out as we talk (or type this) in the latest April update and can be found by manually triggering an update search in the update settings section. Windows (if it hasn’t already reported a bug with a restart yet).
You have the option to turn it off, just like any other item on the taskbar. Although, if you’re a fan of being able to access all the latest updates on one screen with just the push of a button, this is a nice feature to have.
