‘He’s the best at his job’: Michael Parkinson, 87, delights viewers as he makes a rare appearance on Good Morning Britain to discuss the art of the interview
Michael Parkinson delighted viewers by making a rare TV appearance on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday.
The legendary broadcaster, 87, appeared alongside his son Mike, 55, where he discussed the art of interviewing and reminisced about his time with George Best.
The chat host presented his show Parkinson from 1971 to 1982 and then from 1998 to 2007.

Asked about the artistry of the interview by hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, Michael said: “It takes work to be candid in an interview, to ask questions correctly and not to be touchy about certain topics.”
You are aware of this as an interviewer. It’s a fascinating subject. There are many other things that come into play.
He added, “I also like watching interviews these days, especially when they’re not correct.”
Michael was good friends with George Best and interviewed the footballer more than a dozen times during his career.

Mike recalls playing football with the Manchester United winger as a child and his teachers didn’t believe him.
He said: ‘George used to come downstairs and he would try to avoid dad because dad was trying to lecture him.
“He was running around in the garden and playing football with me and the two brothers and the game was about getting the best football out of George, which was impossible.
“I went back to primary school and they asked me what I did over the weekend and I said, I played football with George Best.

“I kept repeating this claim and was taken into custody. I then saw George next time and I said to him, George you got me in trouble and he said what can I do?
“He signed a football and wrote to Sister Cross that he played football with George Best, I love George. I gave it to her the next day at school and I’m sure she blushed.
