Simon Jordan says he is ‘puzzled’ by Michael Beale’s connection to the Rangers job, just 35 days after committing his future to QPR.
The 42-year-old took charge of Loftus Road this summer but has been regularly linked with a move away from west London, despite only being in charge for five months.
Meanwhile, Beale has been linked with senior roles with Aston Villa and Wolves, which the manager has turned down, citing ‘loyalty and integrity’ as one of the key reasons to stay with the Championship club.
However, with Beale now heavily linked with a move to Ibrox, his earlier comments have come back to haunt him.
After turning down the Wolves job, Beale said: “It came a bit too soon. It is my goal to work in the Premier League, as it is for all our players.
“The idea is to try to go there ourselves as a group. When we are well, there will be speculation.
“One thing is for sure, Wolves are a fantastic football club, they are a historic football club. It was a real privilege to be asked to go and talk to them, but I didn’t think it was the right one. moment because I made a deal here.
“Integrity is a very big thing to me and loyalty. You don’t give it to get it back, but if those are the things you’re going through in that moment, when you’re put in a position, you must be strong by them.
“I don’t think we’re far from where I want QPR to be as a group. I like working with them, we have a lot to do, but it excites me.
“There are going to be bumps in the road, but I’ve been everything here and asked other people to be everything.
“So I can’t be the first person to run away from the ship.”
But just 35 days later, Beale looks set to drop QPR and Jordan took aim at the manager’s earlier comments regarding ‘integrity’, saying: ‘I am puzzled as to why you would want to be so strident in your integrity point of view, then 35 days later or 40 days later, that has now changed.
“If he makes the decision now to go to Rangers, everything I said five weeks ago would be exactly the same now.
“I said I’d be surprised if he didn’t go to the wolves and I was very pleasantly surprised he didn’t. I listened to his little soliloquy about integrity, having fun at QPR and having a job to do.
“I commented on social media that I hoped the asshole law wouldn’t come into effect and he would lose the next game and he didn’t. He then lost the next four or five.
“People will say he might face some pressure from QPR in a few games if he doesn’t win those games, but the bottom line is Rangers are a very risky job.
“Celtic have such a grip on this league at the moment. Ange Postecoglou is so fit and the difference between Celtic and Rangers is not insignificant.
“It goes back to my original position that these damn managers need to earn their stripes and should just jump at the first opportunity.
“By the very nature of what you’re joining upside down now, something about Wolverhampton Wanderers’ conversation with Beale couldn’t have clicked and it apparently had nothing to do with that ‘I want to stay’ stance. to QPR”. It was probably something in the dialogue between him and the wolves.
“I hope I will be proven wrong again, but I think this time he will find himself at the door.”
