The Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe will currently fill the slot in the German automaker’s lineup for the two-door versions of the C-Class and E-Class. These spy shots show the sporty model coming to the Nürburgring circuit.
The CLE has a roughly oval-shaped grille with thin, angled headlights on either side of the vehicle’s face. Camouflage hides specific details, but there appears to be a narrow opening in the lower fairing.

The vehicle has a sleek profile with an arched roofline and a very short rear deck. There appears to be a pointed crease running diagonally upwards on the rear door.
From the rear, you can see that the CLE has a proper trunk, rather than a tailgate. The rear lights consist of an arch pointing downwards. The rear bumper hides the exhaust pipes.
The CLE-Class rides on the MRA-2 platform which also sits under the new C-Class. This means the two models can share powertrains. The offerings could even include the electrified 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that powers the new AMG C63. Early indications indicate that this mill delivers a total output of 670 horsepower (500 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque.
We don’t have any pictures inside the CLE Class yet. The relationship to the C-Class means the coupe could borrow technology from the new sedan. That would mean large displays for the instruments and infotainment system.
In addition to this hardtop coupe, previous spy photos show a convertible variant of the CLE-Class in development. It replaces the convertible versions of the C-Class and E-Class. A 2020 rumor suggested the possibility of a shooting brake version, but we haven’t seen any spy photos of it yet.
Mercedes is not yet saying when the CLE-Class will debut. The best guess right now is that the unveiling should take place before the end of 2022. Then the model will go on sale in the first half of 2023. From there, additional variants like the AMG models would slowly join the lineup. .
