For many tractor-trailer operators, the cab serves as both a home and an office. This dual focus often means there are tradeoffs, but Mercedes is trying to counter that with its Actros Edition 2. Mercedes announced the new generation Actros last September, including the Edition 2 model, although the company is only doing start the deliveries of the luxury truck.
The German manufacturer plans to build only 400 copies of the Actros Edition 2, the first will soon arrive with its owner. The company offers around 40 additional options for owners, providing a range of customization possibilities typically reserved for mainstream Mercedes models. Okay, maybe it’s not that extreme. The company doesn’t give a full rundown of what’s available, but details on the First Edition 2 give an idea of what’s on offer. The truck comes with nappa leather on the dashboard and door handles, carbon fiber trim and a roof hatch with ambient lighting.
Exterior accents include star-patterned side decals, “Edition 2” branding on painted sun visor, four additional LED headlights above windshield, stainless steel entry steps, hoods. stainless steel axle, and more. Mercedes’ three-pointed star is trimmed in black and is illuminated, while the grille features decorative elements in dark chrome. The dark theme also covers the darkened headlight surrounds
Mercedes offers the Edition 2 in two- and three-axle variants with GigaSpace and BigSpace cabs in right-hand and left-hand drive. Standard features include the Comfort Package which includes a magnifying mirror, LED mood lighting and a refrigerator. A vision pack adds bi-xenon headlights and an electric sun visor, while the media pack improves the audio system and increases the number of charging ports. Living on the road is tough, but those who do, at least in Europe, might bring a bit of luxury with them.
