FLORENCE, Italy, Jan. 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The new Omicron variant spread rapidly, causing infections to rise at an unprecedented rate. On November 28, the WHO is now recommending that laboratories use real-time PCR detection kits by measuring to identify suspected infections with the Omicron variant, directly at the time of testing for positivity.
In order to support this recommendation, Menarini offers CoronaMeltVAR, a CE-IVD certified real-time PCR detection kit with spacer dye detection followed by melting curve analysis. The kit is able to detect positive samples with high sensitivity, thanks to the amplification of two targets, both compatible with all variants, as well as with the wild-type form, thus allowing to simultaneously report the suspicious presence of the Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 variants, as well as Alpha, Beta/Gamma and WT/Delta.
All results are obtained in a single analysis on each sample, without loss of sensitivity compared to normal kits and without the need to perform a second reflex test on positive samples. The kit is compatible with most RNA extraction methods and real-time PCR instruments capable of performing reduced resolution melting curve analysis. CoronaMeltVAR provides IVD-certified detection of the SARS CoV-2 virus and monitoring of the Omicron variant in less than 2 hours.
