MEGHAN Markle thought she would be the Beyoncé of the UK thanks to royal congratulations – but actually hated the palace rules, according to insiders.
Valentine Low’s new book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown details explosive claims about how the Duchess of Sussex misinterpreted what life as a royal would be like.
In an excerpt, published by The Times, a former aide said the “kudos” that came with being so closely tied to the monarchy also came with restrictions in other areas.
They said: “I think Meghan thought she was going to be the Beyoncé of the UK.
“Being part of the royal family would give him those kudos.
“Whereas what she found was that there were so many rules that were so ridiculous that she couldn’t even do the things that she could do as an individual, which is hard.
“It just needed decision-makers to sit around a table and say, ‘OK, what are we going to do about this? What do you need to feel better? And what is -what can we give?’ “
The couple left the UK during their bitter Megxit split from society in 2020.
Harry and Megan’s supposed decision to step down from royal duties formed a crisis handled with “incompetence beyond belief”.
The book says nothing could have prevented the potential clash between the Royal Family and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they tried to walk away.
Another palace source said dealing with the fracture was “an impossible task”.
They said: “I think in Meghan and the household, you had two worlds that had no experience of each other, had no way of understanding each other, had no way of understanding each other.
“And Meghan was never going to fit into that model and that model was never going to tolerate the Meghan that Meghan wanted to be.
“So I think it was inevitable that they couldn’t work together.
“I don’t think Edward could have done anything about it that other members of the royal family would have accepted.”
It comes amid claims Markle told Harry she would break up with him if he didn’t publicly announce they were dating, according to a new book.
In her latest book, Brokers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, royal correspondent and author Valentine Low says the Duchess of Sussex has given her husband an ultimatum.
According to an excerpt from the book, published on The Times, as Harry faced “hordes of journalists” eager to dig into his new girlfriend’s life, Harry “became determined to protect her”.
But at the same time, it’s claimed Meghan told him that if he didn’t announce how serious they were, she was out.
The book claims: “A source said, ‘She said, ‘If you don’t release a statement confirming I’m your girlfriend, I’m going to break up with you.’ Harry was freaked out.”
The claim is part of a series of scathing revelations made about Meghan’s story in Low, airing a number of claims from insiders and former aides in her latest analysis of life behind palace walls.
He wrote that while Meghan strived to be publicly portrayed in a positive light during the couple’s 2018 tour of Australia, behind the scenes “it was a different story”.
The book states: “Although she enjoyed the attention, Meghan failed to understand the purpose of all those walks, shaking hands with countless strangers.
“According to several staff members, she was overheard saying on at least one occasion, ‘I can’t believe I don’t get paid for this’.”
Low also said that before the couple’s engagement, she tried to let palace staff know about her arrival.
The book says: “In the spring of 2017, more than six months before the couple got engaged, she said to one of Harry’s advisers: ‘I think we both know I’m going to be one soon. of your bosses “.”
