Earlier this year, the Russian complained that he was using a heavier chassis than the one used by his teammate Mick Schumacher.
Finally, at the Belgian Grand Prix, Mazepin got the lighter chassis, which at the time, he said, had “massively improved” his pace on the lap.
But the Russian driver was forced to switch back to the heavier chassis after damaging the other one during the opening practice of the Qatar Grand Prix, which he supplemented with the older, heavier version.
“Back with the heavy chassis, like I said before, it behaves well, but when you carry extra weight on you it’s just not optimal for the lap time,” Mazepin said afterwards. the Losail event.
“You know there’s a reason drivers don’t eat fries and then sandwiches! The chassis is a little too big for me.”
He added: “Obviously we have two more races. I hope it will be back for Abu Dhabi, but I am focusing on my job myself and I have to maximize it.
“So if he doesn’t come back before the end of this year, I’m just lucky to have discovered this new chassis and saw the potential that we’ve all seen in Mexico and Brazil.”

When asked what the difference in weight was, he replied, “A lot. This sport is very confidential although I don’t know what a difference it makes. People don’t like to talk about it.
Haas team principal Gunther Steiner said that although it was cracked the chassis was serviceable, but the team needed to make sure it could be ready in time for the next races before take a decision.
“We are looking at it,” he said. “It’s fixable, but it’s pretty cracked. But it is fixable.
“Now we see how to get it back and if you fix it, when do we get the chassis back. There is no point in picking it up for a next year, because we are no longer using this chassis.
“So this is all happening as we speak. I don’t know what chassis it’s in now because I messed up the chassis numbers, you know, like I said, some of the people in here. know you better than I. But to me they’re all the same, the chassis, you know my opinion on that.
“But there is another space chassis and we are looking to fix it and get it done on time.”
