Maya’s first time performing Aftersun proved to be a resounding success, with initial ratings reporting a peak of 1.82 million plays on the show, compared to 1.51 million for Love Island.
“Spin-off shows are definitely not meant to be the main event. They sit next to the main show to use additional footage, steer the narrative or increase the noise around a program,’ a source told The Sun.
“So no one ever expects the sister show to overtake the main show in numbers. Maya turns out to be just the shot in the arm that Love Island really needs right now.

Smashing it: Maya’s first time performing Aftersun proved to be a smash hit, with initial ratings reporting the show peaking at 1.82 million plays, up from 1.51 million.
Maya is currently winning in the TV world as Love Island bosses gave her 50 per cent more airtime than former host Laura, 37.
After just four episodes, Maya had already featured on the hit TV show for 19 minutes and 55 seconds.
In the same episode of the last series, Laura had recorded only 13 minutes and 26 seconds.
Debates about host deadlines on set have existed since Caroline Flack, 40, began presenting Love Island in 2015.
Laura’s husband, Iain Stirling, 34, even cracked a joke during the Love Island series.
And during the first episode, Iain could be heard on the voiceover jokingly saying, “She could have just texted, but we wanted our money’s worth on that flight back to Cape Town.”

Winner! It comes after it was revealed Maya is currently winning in the TV world as Love Island bosses gave her 50% more airtime than previous host Laura, 37 years.
And Maya isn’t planning on stopping there because, according to The Sun, Maya said she plans to visit the new South African villa as often as possible.
However, she also said she would be in London every Sunday to present the Love Island spin-off show Aftersun.
Maya became the host of Love Island this year after Laura quit the show just after three series due to the struggle of traveling hours now that she is a new mum.
It has been suggested that the producers plan to keep Maya on the show for a while, as she is “now a major television force to be reckoned with”.

Industry expert Jonathan Shalit told the Daily Mail: “Maya is just fantastic – a real star and now a household name.
“She did the role of host of Love Island perfectly and proved to be an A-list global star.

Meanwhile, a source added that the ‘electric’ launch was something ‘a marketer’s dreams are made of’ and will no doubt see plenty of people rushing to watch the ITV2 catch-up show.
