Leandro Trossard launched the ball in the fifth minute, before Ben White and Kai Havertz doubled in the second half.

The result leaves Chelsea languishing in ninth place in the table – 30 points behind table leaders Arsenal.

And while the club has now suffered 11 defeats in the first division this season, Pochettino was quick to denounce his team’s “unacceptable” and “soft” performance.

Sharing his thoughts on the mutilation to talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface, Pochettino said: “It’s difficult to explain.

“We started the first half very badly, we didn’t show any energy and we weren’t competitive, and in the second half we started the same way.

“We were talking a lot at half-time to try and remedy that situation, but it was so easy for Arsenal to score two goals. [quick] goals in the second half.”

Pochettino continued: “We didn’t compete as a team, that’s very clear. We are inconsistent for different reasons.

“Starting the game the way we started it is not acceptable, that’s the problem.

“After 70/80 minutes, OK, you are tired and you have no energy, but it was the start of the match.

“The way we started was really painful and I’m very disappointed because if we want to compete we not only have to go out there and play football, we also have to have more energy and focus.

“It’s the hardest thing to explain.”

Commenting on Chelsea’s worst result in a London derby since 1986, Poch said: “It hurts the players, the club, the coaching staff, everything.

“Everyone is hurt after that result, but the problem is realizing beforehand, when you prepare for the match, that if you want to compete you have to realize it’s a London derby.

“All I can say is I apologize to the fans, I apologize to the people because I think the first and second minutes [first and second half]30 minutes of play, we didn’t compete.

“We were so limp, it’s so painful, so painful.”

“I need a few hours to recover, because I think it’s not nice to see your team not competing during the match, and the way we lose is so painful.”
