‘What are you doing?’ MasterChef judges are shocked after medical student makes major mistake during tense challenge
Tensions were high during Sunday night’s episode of MasterChef Australia.
Show judges Melissa Leong, Jock Zonfrillo and Andy Allen were shocked after Eric Mao made a major mistake during an elimination challenge.
While trying to create a carbonara, the 21-year-old medical student was unable to emulsify and create the sauce because his pan was too hot.

“I just had a mini kitchen disaster and now I’m losing a lot of confidence,” Eric said on camera after setting a set on fire.
“Everything is disorganized, everything is frantic. It is not going well at all.
“ I have to cook my pasta and start making the carbonara itself. No matter what, I can’t waste time making another big mistake.

Eric then explained: “The art of making a beautiful carbonara lies in the emulsification stage. Mix the sauce and the pasta water. “
He then held his cooked pasta with a pair of tongs and tossed it into a saucepan.

“The pot is way too hot,” Eric says.
“ I can’t emulsify and create a nice, succulent sauce in such a hot pan but I don’t have a lot of choice, ” he admitted.
Despite Eric’s setback, Wynona was sent to pack his bags during the elimination episode.
