Horner was called up by Qatar GP stewards after mentioning a ‘rogue marshal’ in a TV interview when discussing the Q3 yellow flag incident which led Max Verstappen to win a five-place grid penalty .
The marshal in question waved yellow flags on the final corner in the closing moments of Q3 after Pierre Gasly hit the sidewalks, lost his front wing and suffered a puncture.
Horner apologized and received a warning, and he also agreed to participate in a stewardship training program which will take place early next year.
Masi, who has ultimate responsibility for track officials at each venue on Grand Prix weekends, has made it clear he wants to set a precedent and said he will “stand up for every volunteer official.”
“I think you shouldn’t attack anyone, and especially when we have thousands of volunteer commissioners around the world who devote a tremendous amount of time globally,” he said.
“Without them, this sport that everyone cares about, and everyone gives a huge amount of their time, will not take place.
“I will stand up for every volunteer official and every official on every race track around the world, [and stress] that this is not accepted.

Masi stressed that the concerned Marshal “was doing his best in his opinion, acting in the best interests of keeping everyone safe on track. And I don’t think anyone should be criticized for acting on their instincts. “
Masi confirmed that he referred the case to the stewards after being briefed on Horner’s comments.
“Yes I did, it was a reference from the race director to the stewards,” he said.
“I was informed and referred Christian, and Christian apologized very much for his comments.
“Obviously the flight attendant’s decision was very simple, that Christian was very sorry and didn’t want to offend anyone, the person in question who was waving the flag was personally apologized, and Christian in his honor volunteered to come and be part of the stewards’ seminar in 2022.
“It’s a two day seminar for the stewards, so there is a lot that is discussed during these two days. There will be a lot of topics and we could give him a topic to present.
