Commentator Martin Tyler has come to the defense of the much-maligned Jordan Henderson, after his excellent performance in England’s World Cup round of 16 win over Senegal.

The Liverpool captain shone against the CAN champions, opening the scoring with a well-taken finish on the edge of the box.

Overall too, the 32-year-old has thrived playing just ahead of Declan Rice.

The Three Lions vice-captain was a ball of energy from the first minute, pressing constantly, winning the ball back and taking clever positions.

However, the Champions League winner has been singled out by many for his performances in a Reds shirt this season.

With Henderson’s athleticism in a steep decline and his passing far from his best, several supporters believe he is over the hill.

So much so that some went so far as to say that it was high time Jurgen Klopp showed him the door this summer.

Tyler defends underfire Henderson

Martin Tyler, who is often accused of being biased against Liverpool online and presumed to be a Man United fan, defended Jordan Henderson after his brilliant display in the World Cup knockout clash as the England beat Senegal 3-0.

“His football has been questioned and it’s a bit unfair. What he’s always had are massive contributions as a person, he helps other players.

“Jordan Henderson will not help anyone,” he said, relayed by Liverpool Echo.

Tyler’s defense hides Henderson’s flaws

Yes, some of the criticism of the Englishman, who joined the club for £20million (BBC Sport) in 2011, has been harsh and wildly over the top.

Over the years, the Premier League champion has been a key figure in the rise of the Merseyside-based side.

However, that’s not to say he doesn’t deserve any criticism for his performances at Liverpool this season.

Simply put, the experienced midfielder has been a shadow of his former self this season and left a lot to be desired last season as well.

While the Reds legend isn’t entirely to blame, Martin Tyler’s take on Jordan Henderson is slightly revisionist, right off the bat after his impressive display at the World Cup.
