Among the dead was Ash Good, a 38-year-old Sydney mother who threw her injured nine-month-old baby to a passerby in a bid to save his life.

The baby underwent surgery and it is believed the two men were the first to be targeted by the attacker.

A heroic police officer, NSW Police Inspector Amy Scott, single-handedly confronted and shot Cauchi during his rampage.
