Mark Goldbridge: Some Manchester United fans are unhappy, I don’t understand the obsession with ‘Ten Hag out’ and we should support Antony

Mark Goldbridge has hit back at the “obsession” over Erik ten Hag’s sacking and insists there is a bigger problem at Manchester United that needs to be addressed.

The Red Devils superfan and YouTube host joined talkSPORT to give us his take on the latest news from Old Trafford.

And he responded to growing calls for the Premier League giants to wield the ax after another dreadful season – including from some talkSPORT pundits – here’s what he had to say.

I find Ten Hag’s whole conversation really confusing. It’s almost like someone put something in the water.

There is this obsession with sacking him, and yet you look at Chelsea and nothing is really said about Mauricio Pochettino, who is no longer in the FA Cup, who has just been beaten by Arsenal, they spent £1 billion sterling and they are terrible!

Should Ten Hag win the FA Cup to avoid being sacked? Absolutely not!

Learn more about Manchester United

We’re playing Man City who are probably going to win the title again this season, which would make it six of the last seven seasons, they’re the best team in the world, they’re a heavyweight.

You can’t say United have to beat a heavyweight for the manager to keep his job, that’s ridiculous. It has been a very disappointing season for Manchester United.

We’ve had a major takeover, we’ve had a lot of off-field issues, we’ve had the biggest injury toll in our history and I think we just need this summer and this new structure to get going. implant.

Sacking Ten Hag will cost money, and we have sacked managers many times over the last ten years.

I think it’s very clear when you’re 3-0 up against Coventry with 30 minutes to go and you make a few substitutions, rightly so because you have a game on Wednesday, and it ends up being 3-3, it’s It’s up to the players not to feel that way.

I think among Man United fans there is a real acceptance that the club’s major problem is the players, so replacing the manager and not the players is going to be problematic.

Mark Goldbridge believes Jurgen Klopp knows the Premier League title race is over for Liverpool, but the north London derby will be crucial for Arsenal to stop ‘juggernaut’ Manchester City.

I think so, I understand that some people want Ten Hag sacked, but no manager is going to change Manchester United, they need a major overhaul and that has to start with the playing staff.

So I don’t agree. They might fire Ten Hag because they have new owners, but that’s not the route I would take.

FA Cup non-celebrations

I don’t subscribe to the idea that it was embarrassing how we won that game and that beating Coventry on penalties was one of the lowest points.

Some fans even said they wished we would lose because Coventry deserved it more – I don’t understand. It wasn’t a surprise to me that it ended like this.

Coventry beat Wolves to get to the semi-finals and they almost got promoted to the Premier League last year – they’re a decent team, and Man United are rubbish! We weren’t stealing candy from the children, it’s a football match!

It feels like something has changed in football, and certainly among United fans, where people are very unhappy about winning football matches.

We had it against Brentford at Old Trafford in the autumn when we were losing 1-0, we scored two goals and people were saying: ‘I’m not celebrating, it’s rubbish’.

What do you think of Lincoln City fans, what do you think of Sheffield Wednesday fans? Do you think they refuse to celebrate winning matches because they don’t play like a Pep [Guardiola] team?

Man United have been bad for ten years, this “Man United way” must be deserved. Look at the way Arsenal play, look at the way Liverpool play – you have to earn it!

I enjoyed that result at Coventry because it was a relief that we won and, at the end of the day, I just want my team to win.

Yes, I want them to play well, but we seem to have lost the joy of winning a football game because we are so obsessed with how we play football.

There are huge problems for Man United and it’s been a horrible season, so I’m looking forward to the ‘small’ wins knowing we have Arsenal in a few weeks, and also Crystal Palace who are playing well, and with the way we let’s play right now, anyone can suggest a game to us.

There are more defeats to come, so I’ll enjoy the wins for now, because that’s surely what supporting your club is.

Get behind Antony

Antony’s thing…he shouldn’t do that. I think we can all agree that he shouldn’t do that.

But then again, they’re the party police, right? He shouldn’t have done it and I think he knows he shouldn’t have done it, but he just overreacted in the moment and he’s absolutely meant for that.

I just think Man United fans should be behind him, we’ve all seen Antonio Rudiger do it for Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The Rasmus [Hojlund] the celebration itself was just an embarrassment on the part of the players for not running around and celebrating a game they normally should have won, so I kind of understand that.

Antony faced heavy criticism for the moment as he cocked an ear towards Coventry players after winning on penalties.

And Ten Hag called out the media, I think it was aimed at the Man United media, not the wider British media, because he’s had a really difficult time, there’s been a lot of things that have been say.

One of the reporters even said, “Send him back now” during the match. It’s just a program, it’s not journalism.

If you’re going to write that, then I think the manager has every right to call it embarrassing. So there’s a little subplot to that.

When he says the media is embarrassing people might think he’s talking about talkSPORT or the BBC, but I think Ten Hag was focusing on a few United journalists who stabbed him in the back in public .
