The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust have compiled a list of demands for any new owner of the football club.
Ineos chief executive Sir Jim Ratcliffe is interested in buying a stake in the Red Devils, with a view to achieving a full takeover in the future.
His interest appeared as a result of information that the Glazers planned to sell a minority participation in the club.
The American owners have come under fire from United fans since the family bought the club in 2005.
The club have been saddled with huge debt and there has been criticism of the way United have been managed as well as a lack of investment in infrastructure.
MUST’s Chris Rumfitt joined White and Jordan on talkSPORT to deliver a verdict on the Ratcliffe reports.
“It is clearly an interesting development and there is a lot of speculation about a change of owner or new investors,” he said.
“In light of everything that is happening, we called for change. The change has to be the right change, though.
“We are not going to just accept any new potential owner and we have things we want from a new owner.
“We want them to engage with the culture, philosophy and best traditions of Manchester United.
“We want them to invest real money in the playing team and the stadium and we want them to incorporate supporters into any new ownership model.
“If there is a new owner who is coming, whether Jim Ratcliffe or anyone else, who checks these boxes, we would be very interested in talking to them.”
Rumfitt also insisted fans shouldn’t get too excited with the news, but the prospect of Ratcliffe, who is a United supporter, was promising.
He said, “It’s encouraging, but we have already had false dawn. As a group of supporters, and as Manchester United fans in general, it is encouraging, but we are also cautious.
“We will impose any new owner conditions, we will. We believe in support of shareholding and we are encouraged by the possibility of a change, but it must be the right change.
“I hope any good new owner wouldn’t see it as a condition, but welcome it.”
He added: “He has invested in other sports organizations. Obviously the cycling team, the Nice Football Club, which seems to be doing some interesting things in the south of France.
“There is a balance sheet there, which would make him a potentially interesting person who to talk to and a future potential owner.”
The protests continued against the Glazers, the last having taken place before their 2-1 defeat against Brighton the opening weekend of the season.
This will probably not change at less than there is significant progress.
Rumfitt added: “If it’s just at the stadium, it’s now speculation with nothing properly confirmed, I wouldn’t have thought it would change anything.
“It is a sign of hope. United Fans have already had burnt fingers, so it will be a hope tinged with caution.
“I doubt it will change anything in the short term unless things get clearer or more substantial.”
