Manchester United have to sort out Diogo Dalot’s future before making a move for Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier, according to reports.
United are reportedly interested in former Tottenham defender Trippier, who played a key role for England at Euro 2020.
However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, United must first decide Dalot’s future, following his loan to AC Milan last season.
“Kieran Trippier’s situation is still calm as Manchester United need to clarify Diogo Dalot’s future (AC Milan want it, but United are asking for loan fees of € 4/5 million and a buy option) Romano tweeted.
“Atletico Madrid are NOT considering Florenzi as a replacement. He is not even an option.
Trippier provided six assists in 28 appearances for Atletico in La Liga last season, as they won their first La Liga title since 2014.
He also helped Luke Shaw score the first goal for England in the Euro 2020 final loss to Italy.
As for Dalot, the Portuguese made 21 appearances for Milan in Serie A last season, which saw him called up to the Portuguese squad at the European Championships.
He signed for the Porto Red Devils in 2018, but hasn’t had much of an impact since moving to Old Trafford.
United are looking to sign a right-back who can challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a place in the club’s first-team.
Former Premier League center forward Charlie Austin recently criticized Wan-Bissaka for his inability to defend himself and called on United to bring in Trippier this summer.
“Although Manchester United have signed [Raphael] Varane their biggest problem is they need a right-back, ”the QPR forward – who won a recent 4-2 pre-season victory over United, told talkSPORT.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is not up to the task [required] quality. We faced them the other day, and I know it was just a pre-season friendly, but they have to pull out all the stops for Kieran Trippier.
“That’s what they cry for. It [Wan-Bissaka] can not defend!
