Manchester United have confirmed they are looking to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking at the weekend.
Solskjaer was originally an interim boss when he first took office at the club in 2018, but, after excellent results in the Premier League and Champions League, he got the job permanently. .

Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag have all been linked for the post, but they appear to be more likely candidates at the end of the season.
So who could hold the job at Old Trafford until then? talkSPORT.com is reviewing some potential candidates.
Michael carrick
First with the obvious Carrick candidate, with the club confirming that the former United midfielder will take the lead until someone else is found.
However, if he can put together good form – just like Solskjaer did a few years ago – he might have the chance to hold the position until the end of the season and maybe beyond.

He has been coaching at United since 2018 after being appointed by José Mourinho.
And, being a former Red Devil, he matches what the club have done in the past, with Ryan Giggs and Solskjaer in temporary roles at the helm.
Laurent Blanc
Another former United player, Blanc, could be an option for the club. DiMarzio reports that the Frenchman could be on United’s shortlist as a short-term selection.
Currently on the Qatari side of Al-Rayyan, Blanc played 48 times for the Red Devils at the end of his career.

Steve bruce
After a miserable time at Newcastle, could Bruce be trusted to stabilize the ship at United?
He’s another player who was at United as a player, making 414 gigantic appearances during his time at the club.
Spells at Birmingham, Wigan, Sunderland, Hull and Newcastle as a manager mean he has a lot of experience under his belt.
While not the flashy name many would want, he might be able to organize the team better than Solskjaer, which shouldn’t be too difficult …
