Manchester United ready to rush for PSV’s Cody Gakpo after his impressive display for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
Gakpo has scored three times in the tournament so far and PSV are now ready to capitalize on their attacking superstar. The Sun reports that he will ask interested clubs for £50million, double what he was worth six months ago.
Manchester United were interested in the player in the summer transfer window but could not secure a deal on the line as they pursued Antony instead, although manager Erik ten Hag remains a keen admirer of the player and can’t wait to have him by his side.
Gakpo would also like to move and have opportunities with the team after Cristiano Ronaldo leaves.
The two clubs have yet to start talks but Ten Hag and Gakpo share the same agent which could ease negotiations between the two with the belief that a deal can be reached early next month.
Given his importance to PSV, the Dutch side will demand a lot for their academy graduate, having seen him involved in 30 goals during the campaign – 17 goals and 13 assists.
Despite a long-term contract which expires in 2026, he is assured he will be allowed to leave if demands are met.
Other Premier League clubs such as Everton, Leeds United and Southampton were also interested in the player, with Yorkshire transfer chief Victor Orta even flying to Eindhoven to complete a deal in the summer, but Gakpo has ended up staying at PSV and shined.
He is still open to a move to the Premier League but is expected to move on to the next level, perhaps even competing for Champions League football next season.
