HiFi Donuts in Portland accepts Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through an app
PORTLAND, Maine – There’s a new way to buy a donut or coffee at HiFi Donuts in Portland.
“We wanted to give anyone the option of paying for any form they want,” said owner Melissa Selvon.
Selvon said HiFi Donuts now accepts Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies through an app.
“You enter the dollar amount into your wallet. This will then convert to the coin you want to use, then you just send it to the QSR code and show the transaction has been completed. And it’s instant like that, and everything goes right. in our account, ”explained Selvon.
“A cryptocurrency in its basic form – it’s a value holder. It’s a way of transferring value from one person to another that removes a lot of middleman,” John Austin, business manager at the University of New England, said.
Austin said the cryptocurrency is constantly fluctuating.
“Like any asset, think about it [like]“It fluctuates with the number of buyers and the number of sellers,” he said.
He said because of this, the payment method might be better for investments, rather than buying a donut.
“That donut you bought today, for $ 3, the amount of cryptocurrency you bought this donut with today, may actually be worth $ 6 in a few days. So this donut is costing you $ 6. “Austin said.
Other companies like Tesla also accept cryptocurrency. Austin said it was a way for companies to be innovative and experimental. He said there were also customers who were passionate about it.
“There is a real benefit to a business in being at the cutting edge of technology,” Austin said.
Selvon believes this method is the way of the future and believes more companies will join them.
