And Madeleine West, 41, looked every square inch of the active stateswoman on Saturday as she took part in the I Run For Her community walk in Byron Bay.

“I no longer fuss to see the change, I want to be the change. And so today I officially announce that I intend to stand for State Parliament in the NSW Elections the next year,’ she said, to applause from Studio 10 hosts Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus.

“I want to be the voice of my region. We need a strong voice on the ground, and I want to be. When I came to my area [from Melbourne] six years ago — of course, I love him like everyone else — but I wanted to understand him, I want to understand him better,” West said.
