Luis Suarez has revealed that his contract will be extended in Barcelona if he plays in 60% of the club’s matches next season.
The Uruguayan forward has been an integral part of the Blaugrana team since arriving from Liverpool in 2014, scoring 142 goals in 180 La Liga matches.
However, the 33-year-old has only 18 months left on his contract and there are rumors that he could be out this summer.
Despite speculation, Suarez insisted that his future remains at Camp Nou and the club hopes that the club also wishes to extend his stay.
Suarez told RAC1: “There is the possibility that if I play 60% of the games I am available for next year, I will renew.
“I am happy here and my family is happy too. I am where I always wanted to be and I feel useful, but the decision must come from the club. I want to stay here but it does not depend on me.
Suarez may not be playing this season after injuring his knee in the Spanish Super Cup loss to Atletico Madrid, but the former Reds ace believes it won’t be a problem at long term.
“My knee? I was playing because I used to play with pain. I had cartilage problems, I also had a meniscal cyst,” he added.
“It forces you to put force on other parts of the knee and everything comes together, causing you more problems. I am determined to get back in shape. “
Following the severity of Suarez’s injury, Barcelona were allowed to sign Martin Braithwaite of Leganes’ surprise emergency signing for a contract of four and a half years.
