Luis Suarez has praised Erling Haaland for his incredible form, calling him ‘the best number nine around’.
The Manchester City striker scored his third hat-trick of the season as the champions beat Manchester United, while he also registered two assists in a 6-3 win.
That takes his tally for the season to 17 goals in 10 games, with three hat-tricks in just eight Premier League appearances.
Taking eight games to win three match points smashes Michael Owen’s previous Premier League record of 48 games, and sixth on the list, with 71 games, is Suarez.
The former Liverpool man, now back in Uruguay with Nacional, took a little while to fully launch at Anfield but it was quick to tear up the league.
Leaving for Barcelona in 2014, Suarez’s record was 69 league goals in 110 England games, with five different hat-tricks against Cardiff, West Brom, Wigan and Norwich twice.
So Suarez knows a thing or two about scoring goals and, unsurprisingly, ranks Haaland as the best in the business.
After the Norwegian posted a photo of his meditative celebration on Instagram, Suarez commented: “Congratulations my friend! Amazing game for you! Best number 9 right now.
The Professional Footballers’ Association also had their say, commenting a simple “So good” on the post.
Liverpool fans might be a little annoyed that their former star took the time to compliment a rival – but he’s right.
