American Ally Ewing won her second LPGA Tour title, beating Germany’s Sophia Popov in the LPGA Matchplay final in Las Vegas.
The 28-year-old edged out Women’s Open champion Popov 2 & 1 in the final.
Ewing, ranked 30th in the world, beat Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn 3 & 2 in the semifinals earlier on a long, hot day at Shadow Creek.
She said: “It was exhausting. I think I was limping at the finish line. Fatigue was definitely a factor.”
Popov, who provided with it one of the stories of 2020 Victory of the Women’s Open at the Royal Troon, also said that fatigue had an impact on his performance in the final.
“I’m just a little sad that I couldn’t have played my best this afternoon,” she said.
“I was there. If I had been close to the game in the last four days, I could have won. For both of us, it was not our best performance.”
Ewing’s victory in Vegas is his second title on the LPGA Tour after winning the Drive On Championship at Reynolds Lake Oconee last October.
