Shaughna Phillips blocked the word ‘legs’ from appearing on her social feed before entering the Love Island Villa earlier this year.
But the hateful comments could still be read by everyone else viewing his photos.
This is because she had fat cells accumulating in her legs, which made them fat.
It wasn’t until he left the villa that Shaughna was diagnosed with stage one lipedema.
It is believed that more than one in 10 women in the UK suffers from the disease, which is an abnormal build-up of fat cells that cannot be broken down by diet or exercise.
Shaughna decided to pay for private liposuction to shrink her legs. The procedure is not available on the NHS.
Dr Alex Munnoch – one of the few lipodema experts in the country – says it’s the responsibility of healthcare professionals to be aware of the disease, which is not currently taught to doctors.
I am not fat, I have lipedema
