LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With all the moving parts of college basketball, coupled with sometimes confusing NCAA eligibility rules, it can be difficult to keep track of the big picture for the Louisville men’s basketball team . We’re here to eliminate any confusion and provide you with a chart that charts the scholarship distribution for the Cardinals over the next four seasons.

Below is the current scholarship table for the Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball program, along with explanations of post-COVID eligibility rules below:

Key: Light Purple – first year of college, Dark Purple – second year, Blue – third year, Yellow – fourth year, Orange – fifth year

*Note: Players listed as “5th Year” represent optional COVID waiver years.

The way eligibility works at the Division I level is that you have a “five-year clock.” What this means, according to the official NCAA page, is that you have five calendar years to play four competitive seasons. This clock starts when you enroll full-time at any college, whether D1, D2, D3, JUCO or NAIA.

Then COVID came along and decided to make things a little more complicated. With the virus eliminating the 2020 postseason, the NCAA decided to offer an additional season of competition and an additional year to complete it for winter sports student-athletes who competed in 2020-21 at the D1 level. Essentially, they now had six years to complete five seasons instead of five years to complete four seasons.
