Hector Bellerin is no longer good enough for Arsenal and the Gunners should cash the right-back this summer, says John Barnes.
The Spaniard has been linked with a stint at Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks and reports have suggested he may be ready to move to the French capital.
And Liverpool icon Barnes bluntly suggested Bellerin would only be enough for the PSG bench right now given his current form.
“When Hector Bellerin first arrived he was good enough to play for PSG, but now I’m not sure, especially with their (PSG) ambitions,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.
“In his position, you don’t have to be the best in the world to play for PSG, but I don’t know if they will remain interested in him at the end of the season.
“If he (Bellerin) said he didn’t want to stay at Arsenal then they should let him go. The team should only be interested in players who want to play in both good times and bad times.
“Bellerin is part of the reason why Arsenal are a club in transition and are not playing well at the moment.
“The players always aspire to play for the best team in the world and win lots of trophies, but if everyone did that then all the best players would be in one club.”
Barnes added: “I wouldn’t want a player like Bellerin in my club.
“If your team is not performing well, you want players who want to help the team perform better, not those who talk about leaving mid-season when the team is going through a difficult time. He owes more to Arsenal than to this.
“If he doesn’t want to spend the best years of his career on the bench, then moving to PSG doesn’t make sense because they have a higher average level of defender.
“If he can’t always start at Arsenal consistently in recent years, then he won’t be able to start at PSG.”
