Dustin Johnson snagged an eagle putt on the first hole to win the LIV Golf International in Boston and clinch the £3.49 million ($4 million) top prize.
The double big winner beat the Chilean Joaquin Niemann and the Indian Anirban Lahiri in a three-way shoot-off.
The trio all completed their 54 holes on 15 under.
Lee Westwood bogeyed the last to miss the play-off and finished fourth alongside Open champion Cameron Smith, who was making his LIV debut.
Johnson hit a five-under par 65 with his sixth birdie of the day on the 13th.
He failed to make another birdie and needed stoppages by the last two holes to qualify for the play-offs.
Johnson, who finished eighth in the Saudi-backed inaugural event in London, fourth in Portland and third in Bedminster, became the first American to win the individual trophy in the series.
He sent his barrage putt racing up the hill and although the ball hesitated when it hit the lip, it then hit the back edge of the cup and bounced back.
“Yeah, it was going a little fast, but it was a good line,” Johnson said, adding that he felt the 18th “owed me” after his second shot in regulation ended up in the undergrowth next to the giant scoreboard behind the green.
Along with the top prize, he also won £654,000 ($750,000) as his share of the team’s top prize for his 4 Aces outfit, which finished two strokes better than Lahiri’s Crushers.
