Lionel Messi played just 34 minutes in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Jamaica – and yet it turned out to be one of the most eventful nights of his international career.
The Paris Saint-Germain superstar came off the bench to score twice in New Jersey’s friendly as the Albiceleste extended their unbeaten streak to 35 games.
It was Messi’s 100th international win and his country are now just two games away from Italy’s world record of 37 games unbeaten.
They look well placed to offer an elusive World Cup winners medal for Messi at Qatar 2022 this winter.
However, the 35-year-old’s night took an unexpected turn when he was nearly knocked down by security in the final moments.
After scoring his first goal, a shirtless pitch invader sprinted towards Messi, surprised him and demanded his back be signed.
The Argentine striker agreed, but the intruder was quickly wiped out by security, with Messi caught in the crossfire.
He managed to stay on his feet and brushed off the incident to score a clever free kick moments later.

After all, Messi is well used to such things.
The striker was approached by another fan who tried to take a selfie with him earlier in the game.
This supporter was also quickly taken care of by security personnel but, luckily for him, he still managed to have his picture taken – even though it was probably not the moment he had dreamed of…
