Lionel Messi may not have reached the heights expected of him early in his Paris Saint-Germain career, but he can match a record set by just two of the greatest players in club history French tonight.
Messi has scored 23 La Liga goals, or more, in 13 consecutive seasons for Barcelona on the verge of becoming their all-time all-time leading scorer … but he has a lot of work to do to keep that run going in his debut campaign at the outside of Spain.

Messi hasn’t been at his best since joining PSG
In one season, he scored 50 league goals and surpassed 40 twice, in an incredible goalscoring record for the Catalan club.
His last tenure at Barca saw him named La Liga top scorer after scoring 30 times, but at PSG it was a different story.
In nine Ligue 1 games he has scored just one goal – an unusual comeback.
However, his lack of form in the league did not prevent the great Argentinian from being recently elected Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in his career.

The Champions League has been a slightly different story, however, with Messi scoring three goals in just four games for his new club.
He has scored in both home matches of the group stage so far, one against Man City and two against RB Leipzig.
Only two players have scored in their first three home games for the club in European competition, with George Weah in 1994 and Neymar in 2017.

Messi can match record held by Neymar and Weah if he scores
PSG have already qualified for the round of 16, but will finish second behind City.
The French giants face Club Brugge on Tuesday at 5.45 p.m., a club they have never lost to before in their three previous meetings.
It therefore seems a golden chance for Messi to write his name in the PSG history books … just four months after joining them.
