Lionel Messi once again showed why he is one of the most selfless players on Thursday night.
The Barcelona superstar gave up the chance to score a hat-trick and instead opted to let Antoine Griezmann take a 93rd-minute penalty so the Frenchman could be on the scoresheet.
It wasn’t the first time Messi had done such a thing, as in 2015 he did the exact same to let Neymar score.
The 33-year-old still scored two goals, and in doing so, he achieved another remarkable feat by scoring twice in their LaLiga game with Getafe on Thursday night.
Messi scored two goals in the first half as Barca took an impressive lead as they won 5-2 to keep pace with both Madrid teams.
He even gave up his chance of a hat-trick by giving a penalty in the 93rd minute to his teammate Antoine Griezmann.
The brace meant the Argentine had scored 25 La Liga goals for the 12th consecutive season.
An incredible feat, something no other player has achieved in Europe’s top five leagues.
Messi has had a remarkable calendar year so far and has already achieved 30 goals, although it is still April.

He has 22 goals and eight assists in all competitions and is nowhere near the form he showed earlier this season.
We all know the story. He wanted to leave, the club didn’t want to leave him and he reluctantly stayed for at least another season.
What it proved was that Messi may be human after all and that these outside influences really had an impact on his game.
He has only scored ten goals and recorded one assist in the first 18 games of the season, a series of games that included losses to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
This has left Barcelona far behind in La Liga, with Atletico appearing to run away with the title.
But things have changed. Josep Maria Bartomeu, someone who was the source of much of Messi’s frustrations, stepped down as club president and was replaced by Joan Laporta in March.
And since the start of the year, Messi has enjoyed a remarkable streak that brought Barcelona back into the title race and also led him to the Copa del Rey.
They are five points behind leaders Atletico with a match still in progress.
