Among the many stately vehicles gracing this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is a new concept car from Lincoln that is impossible to miss. The L100 model is a long, low and sleek fastback that pays homage to the automaker’s luxury past while offering a possible glimpse into the future of luxury motoring at Lincoln.
The 1922 Model L is specifically mentioned among the vehicles from which the L100 concept was inspired. Admittedly, we don’t see much similarity between the two, except for two rows of seats and a long wheelbase. Being an electric vehicle, the L100 concept certainly requires a slippery shape to glide through the air better, and that shows in spades with its expansive, organic shape.
If that’s not enough to attract attention, the car opens up in a grand way. Two doors open on reverse hinges, although in this case, doors basically means everything from the front fenders to the rear. The roof also lifts, making it easier for passengers to get in and out. And frankly, with everything rolled out, the concept looks pretty darn cool.

Once you get there, the lack of driving controls or instrumentation becomes apparent. Lincoln views the L100 model as a fully autonomous vehicle, and as such, it features a configurable interior to suit passenger needs. Everyone can face forward, or the front seats can swivel to create a face-to-face atmosphere. The center console includes an interactive screen that includes, among other things, a chessboard. It’s not the only digital element in the cockpit, however. The floor is also digital and the interior is awash with lighting features that combine to create a sanctuary for passengers.
As this is purely a concept vehicle, there are no stats available regarding range, speed, or other performance metrics. it’s purely a design exercise, much like the company’s anniversary concept that debuted last year. Of course, that’s not to say that some of the ideas explored in the L100 model couldn’t ultimately be carried over to production vehicles.

“We are at a special time in our history,” said Joy Falotico, president of Lincoln Motor Company, Joy Falotico. “Over the past 100 years, Lincoln has pioneered multiple innovations and pushed the boundaries of design that define our brand as we know and love it today. With the L100 model concept, we are reimagining what could look like Lincoln’s sanctuary for our customers of tomorrow as we move forward to define the next chapter in Lincoln’s story.”
