Here is some great news for LG fans. According to 9to5Google, the LG V60 ThinQ is getting Android 11. The phone was a surprise hit in 2020 as it competed with many other high-end devices. LG has always had an irregular history of rolling out timely updates to its devices. For this reason, this news is welcome.
It looks like LG has decided to end Love Month by pushing Android 11 to the V60 ThinQ. The update is being rolled out on Verizon and T-Mobile variants. The initial deployment began on February 26 and is now expected to hit the devices.
Now the rollout isn’t terribly impressive in terms of speed. Android 11 has been out since September 2020. But compared to LG’s usual update time, it’s downright fast. LG has been beaten by Samsung, which has been rolling out Android 11 to its devices for the past few months.
The update is fairly normal for the course. The changelog mentions Android 11 staples like speech bubbles, notification tweaks, etc.
On YouTube, Juan Bagnell goes in more depth on the changes in the update. According to Bagnell, the UI now resembles the UI of the LG Wing.
LG V60 ThinQ gets Android 11 as company tries to sell smartphone business
Another perk included in this update is the January 2021 security patch. So not only do owners get Android 11 but also the January 2021 security patch. So now V60 ThinQ owners get Android 11 and their devices will also be more secure. Not bad for a business with an irregular update history.
Unfortunately, only Verizon models appear to be officially receiving the January 2021 security patch. Some report that AT&T models are also receiving the security patch, but there is no official changelog indicating this.
LG is going through a tough time in the smartphone market lately. Rumors have spread about a successor to the V60 ThinQ. However, insider claims indicate that this successor will be suspended indefinitely. LG’s business woes on smartphones prompted the company to consider selling its smartphone business.
LG has always lived in the shadow of its Korean competitor Samsung. But LG has also released a lot of solid devices. Despite the fact that they are considering exiting the smartphone market, it is nice to see that they are still updating their devices.
