Few cars stand out in the crowd like the Lexus LC 500 Cabriolet does. With the roof down, this is arguably one of the most attractive toilet seats on the market today. Having a brave 5.0-liter V8 that puts out 471 horsepower (351 kilowatts) certainly doesn’t hurt either, and the result is a convertible that sounds about as good as it looks.
Case-in-point is this new video from AutoTopNL, featuring the LC with its roof while exercising its V8 over limitless sections of the German Autobahn. However, speed isn’t really the selling point of this clip. It opens with the camera placed behind the LC 500 where you can hear the hoarse, poppy melody of its engine. The big Lexus V8 likes revs, going just over 7,000 rpm, and the designers of the LC 500 are well aware of how sound enhances the driving experience. The LC 500 actually has a hose that sends some of that sound back into the cabin, without the harmful gases of course.
The engine sound is certainly not missing in this short but sweet video. After a series of static throttle flashes, the action alternates between speedometer kicks in the car and exterior hovers, all of which feature a very prominent 5.0-liter soundtrack. It’s certainly not a slow car, but with the convertible weighing 2,540 pounds (2,059 kilograms), it’s by no means a supercar. 60 mph arises in about 4.5 seconds, with an official listed top speed of 168 mph. The video actually sees the LC 500’s speedo reaching 175 mph (281 km / h), but GPS data records a top speed of 269 km / h, which equates to 167 mph.
With a base price of just over $ 100,000, the LC 500 convertible certainly doesn’t come cheap and there are faster cars for the money. However, we can’t imagine a gasoline head who doesn’t fall in love with this delicious V8 gig, so sit back, crank up your speakers, and enjoy the ride.
