Stalked by reality
I sent a letter about the mega-growth and the dog tragedy “Sophie”, which luckily missed the deadline or whatever. Anyway, after reading the opinion of the Arcata town hall (Union, April 28) I realize that maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about and I don’t live in Arcata.
I don’t know why this neighbor shot Sophie with apparently no attempt to contact the owners. A terrible and cruel thing to do. From my time in the woods, I have learned that stray or uncontrolled dogs have been the bane of rural landowners for generations. Cattle are attacked, wildlife is destroyed. One of the first bubbles to burst when people have this area is the fantasy that now, finally, their dogs can run free. No they can’t.
I was deeply resentful of the neighbour’s pack of dogs that roamed my land and scared off the resident wildlife, some of which I hoped to harvest in season. Plan to start with a rectangle of at least half an acre fenced around your home. have a large garden, fruit shrubs, nut and fruit trees, etc. and a nice big yard for your dogs. Later, you can extend the fences when funds and plans allow.

The NO party
I have voted in every election for over 50 years. For most of those years, I voted in California, but I also voted in the states of Oregon and Washington, both of which voted by mail.
I learned in the 1960s that it was dangerous to sign petitions, especially since the FBI and the Republican Party were eager to get their hands on the information attached to those petitions.
I have been followed, harassed and inundated with spam from these two organizations. It’s strange that the Democratic Party cares less about harassing me.
With that in mind, I am appalled by the number of people who have signed a petition to recall Governor Newsom. We all know it’s a political ploy by the NO Party, the Republicans, to get something they can’t seem to get on their own, the governorship of California. Really, Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t count. Ask any deadly Republican and they’ll tell you Arnold didn’t do anything for the party.
And how could he? It is the NO Party. The Republican Party has not said yes to any legislation, county, state, or federal, in the past 40 years except for one of the most heinous tax provisions that in 2017 gave the more or less people.
They say no to immigrants, to the poor, to people of color, to the homeless, to people who disagree with them and especially to anyone who is even slightly democratic. They say no to the candidates, invent false reasons not to hear the judges; they are removing any legislation to keep money from getting into politics and claim to be doing good things.
My friends, although it is a republic, this country is the beacon of democratic ideals since its creation 245 years ago. With a two-party system, a party cannot continually be the party of the NO.
Back to the reminder. In the 173-year history of the state of California, more than 200 recall petitions have been signed. In the new case, the reasoning behind the recall is appalling.
In this country, more than 32 million people have contracted COVID-19 with more than 570,000 deaths.
The state of California has a population of nearly 40 million, most of all states have seen 3.7 million cases with just under 62,000 deaths. Can you imagine what it would have been like if the state had not taken restrictive measures? The petitioners want the governor recalled because he made them shut down the meeting places and wear masks. Is that so?
The cost of the election is even worse than this stupid recall reason. The recall election will cost the taxpayers (you and me) $ 100,000,000. It’s millions, folks. How many children could you feed with this money? How many homeless people could you house with so much money?
Gavin Newsom is due for re-election in 2022. If you don’t like him, kick him away. But no! A small group of Republicans, mostly in Riverside and Fresno counties, are forcing us to spend $ 100 million.
I encourage you all to go and vote in this election. Send a message to the No Party that we won’t be intimidated by the money they spend. We still have the right to vote without hindrance in this state. Hopefully the ballots will be sent to everyone again.
Vote against this heinous reminder so that we can continue our work of recovery.
Thank you for your attention,
A recent NPR / PBS / Marist survey found that only 6% of Democratic men refuse to be vaccinated against COVID-19, while 49% of Republican men refuse to be vaccinated.
What’s up with those Republican snowflakes? These so-called “men” can’t stand the prick of a small needle? Pathetic. Chuck Norris should kick you in the teeth for being such a bunch of bozos! That’s if the current GOP party leaders – Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl – still have teeth at this point, as Kamala Harris’s left jab and Joe Biden’s right crossover left those losers crazy. appearing totally toothless from late.
Speaking of the delay, how much longer will it take recalcitrant Republicans to get a clue about the so-called ‘Kung flu’ from Russophile racist Donald Trump that was supposed to go away, according to Don the con, “it’s going to go away. One day it’s like a miracle – it will go away.
Of course, what really went missing were the lives of 570,000 innocent Americans, in addition to the deranged devilish devil Donald Trump disappearing from the White House in defeat and disgrace, thanks to more than 81 million patriotic American voters who collectively claimed their democracy by sending this fascist idiot back into a landslide. fashion.
In the spirit of bipartisan compromise, I say go ahead and build the wall Donald Trump wanted, but not on the southern border. Build this ten story wall all around Mar-a-Lago with spikes at the top and armed American guards in the watchtowers, not to mention massive moats filled with snakes and alligators outside the electrified wall of Trump betrayal, just to make sure the former president, Agent Orange, never leaves Palm Beach again!
Better yet, Mexico would probably pay for this wall, or we can always send the bill straight to the culprits in the Kremlin. Former KGB Col. Vladimir Putin’s foolish foolish idiot, Trump, can rot in his own personal prison, as can Mike Lindell and Donald Trump, Jr.’s favorite cocaine trafficker, General Manuel Noriega of Panama, l once did in South Florida.
Raise a glass to Tim
“You don’t know where you are until you go somewhere else.” This is one of my favorite sayings and I have found it to be true every time I leave Humboldt County and return.
While most of the headlines focus largely on crime and the challenges our community faces, we live in a beautiful place where people share their wonderful essence to make it better.
We sat around the dinner table last night and read aloud Michael Field’s tribute to Tim Gray (Union, April 28). Although I didn’t know Tim well personally, I did get to know him through friends and attending the many Dell’Arte productions he was a part of.
Here is an example where local news is so appreciated and needed. Celebrating people like Tim makes me grateful and aware of the huge gift people like him give to our community.
As a whiskey participant, I raise my glass; well done to Tim and all the joy you have brought to others! We will miss you dearly!

2020: a strange year of illness
COVID came last year,
Killed thousands; a good thing though,
Few colds, few flu.
The challenge of vaccination
The virus mutates,
We try to stay ahead.
Call it an “arms race”.
