A question that caught Titanic fans at night since 1997 have been circling over Jack’s heartbreaking death.
We know you know exactly what we mean. As Leonardo DiCaprio’s beloved hero hoists Rose (Kate Winslet) onto a floating gate before freezing to death and sinking to the bottom of the ocean, viewers wondered if the gate had room for two.
It’s one of the most controversial and debated topics in film, with some fanatics claiming that Jack could have been saved if Rose had just moved on slightly.
In an effort to settle the debate once and for all, the Oscar-winning actor was asked for his opinion and since he filmed the film, he can give us all an idea of whether he could have snuck in. .
Leonardo sat down with his Once upon a time in Hollywood co-stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie for an interview with MTV in 2019 when the highly controversial question came up.
Barbie Actress Margot revealed she was in tears watching the scene, believing Jack could have adapted. “I thought so,” she shared. “I remember bawling my eyes out.”
Despite Margot’s angst at the time, Leonardo simply replied, “No comment.”
High-speed train Star Brad wasn’t happy with Leonardo’s response and cheekily popped the question again.
But Leonardo again said: “No comment.”
Margot then jumped in and asked, “Did you mention it at the time, you said, ‘Should we lower the gate?'”
The Django Unchained The actor replied, “As I said, I have no comment.”
It looks like this debate will rage on for the foreseeable future.
One of the reasons Leonardo was so averse to sharing his own take on the ending might be because Titanic director James Cameron thinks the debate is “dumb”.
In fact, he doesn’t even consider it a debate.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1, the Avatar: The Way of the Water the director said he “never really saw it as a debate”.
He laughed, “That’s just stupid. There is no debate. »
Quoting another Leonardo classic from the 90s, Cameron added: “But if you really want to dig up all the stupid arguments associated with it, I mean, let’s go back. I mean, yeah – could Romeo have been smart and not have taken the poison? Yes. Could he have decided not to bring his small dagger, just in case Juliette stabs herself with it? Yes absolutely. That kind of misses the point.
Well, there you go folks!
