Ireland’s Leona Maguire recorded an exceptional first round of seven under par at the Mediheal Championship in California.
The 26-year-old Cavan, who started in 10th overall, had nine birdies and two bogeys for a 65.
Maguire was four strokes ahead at the top of the standings, but the last starters were not yet finished.
She has had two top 10 finishes this season, including a second tied at the Lotte Championship.
Maguire collected shots at 10, 11, 13, 17 and 18 at Daly City on Thursday before adding more birdies at the first, fifth and eighth holes.
Bogeys came in on the 16th and her final hole as Maguire held a dominant position as she tried to secure a first LPGA victory.
Maguire’s good form this season has taken him from 177th to 93rd place in the world rankings.
