In January of this year, news broke that Phoebe Waller Bridge is reportedly developing a Tomb Raider TV series. This iconic video game franchise saw players become Lara Croft. An aristocratic British adventurer-archaeologist who travels the world in search of buried treasure. Inspired by by Harrison Ford Indiana Jones, Lara has become a heroine for millions of girls. As well as a sex symbol. Indeed, the debate continues to this day on the question of whether Toby Gard the seminal creation can be seen as a feminist icon or a male fantasy. Notably, from the Gard the stated intention was to create a cool, collected, and controlled heroine. The runaway success of Tomb Raider spawned the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Featuring Angelina Jolie as the titular character. Besides, Alicia Vikander starred as Lara Croft in 2018’s Tomb Raider. Additionally, the character holds six Guinness World Records and has appeared in comic books and animated shorts and has a line of action figures. We thought of listing five actors who we think could play Lara in Waller Bridge’s rumored tv show.
Hayley Atwell
This is the role that Atwell was born to play. The Peggy Carter actress has more than proven that she can be tough, witty, glamorous and kick anyone’s ass. So many qualities that Lara Croft needs. On top of that, this performer would kill him off as a rebellious British aristocrat. It has been reported that Atwell will voice Core Design’s iconic action heroine in an upcoming animated series. I would still like to see her play Lara in live action. Atwell has the charisma, courage and star power to wear a Lara Croft series.
Eliza Dushku
This star’s career was built playing strong and dangerous women. So, for that reason, she would be perfect as Lara Croft. The former Faith Lehane can definitely handle the action sequences a Lara Croft series would demand. Moreover, by Dushku turn in Jane Wants A Boyfriend shows that she can play a mentor figure as well as an action girl. What would work well if Waller Bridge was to bring Samantha Nishimura, Lara’s best friend from Tomb Raider 2013, to the next show. We might see by Dushku Croft and Samantha work together to survive after being stranded?
Place Aubrey
Place she herself has expressed interest in taking on this persona. After seeing her in Emily the Criminal, I think she would be an exceptional choice. Place showed that she can be tough as nails but somehow vulnerable. For these reasons, I think she would be great as Lara Croft. I also think this actor could well represent the sardonic spirit of Lara. Waller Bridge’s the writing associated with space The quirky humor and deadpan delivery could give us some hilarious and memorable moments.
Karen Gillan
Based on her work as Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji franchise. I feel that Gillan would be a great Lara Croft. Who could definitely handle the necessary action scenes. Also, I think the old Amy Pond could show Croft’s cruelty. Based on her role as MCU Nebula. This actor has a much wackier and goofier style of comedy than my previous two picks. Depending on how Lara Croft was written, it’s possible the creator of Fleabag and Killing Eve could adapt the humor to Gillan’s method of action. As Hayley Atwell, Karen Gillan also has the grit and name recognition to direct a Tomb Raider TV series.
Felicity Jones
The Jyn Erso star absolutely has the range to play Lara Croft. I believe this actor could show us a more calculating adventurer who is always two steps ahead of her enemies. As Hayley AtwellJones could also play a believable British aristocrat. Moreover, this actor is no stranger to physical roles. As proven by his Rogue One character. My own take is that this performer could bring subtle complexity to Lara Croft and dig deeper into who she is and why she does what she does. Again, that would depend on the writing; but I am convinced that Waller Bridge Can deliver.
