Lane Kiffin’s return to Knoxville certainly did not disappoint. The home and away game was a lot of fun and quarterback Matt Corral may have established himself as the Heisman Trophy favorite with an impressive performance.
The actual outcome of the game, however, will be lost in all nonsense at the end of the game. Tennessee fans threw debris onto the field with 54 seconds left. The Vols fans were squeamish at the 4th and 24th places which ultimately returned the ball to Ole Miss with less than a minute to go. The Vols fans threw bottles, trash and other debris on the playing field, delaying it for 20 minutes. Kiffin was even hit by a golf ball thrown from the stands.
Tennessee eventually got the ball back, thanks to 3 timeouts, but eventually ran out of time as alternate quarterback Joe Milton went over the limit when the time was up.
After the game, Kiffin proudly showed off the golf ball thrown at him during the post-match meeting on the field with Cole Cubelic from the SEC network.
Tennessee fans kept booing Kiffin all the way down the pitch, and one fan even threw a water bottle at Kiffin near the tunnel. Ole Miss’s head coach almost grabbed him with one hand, as his security escort slipped away to take cover.
Then Kiffin pulled off the ultimate troll stunt by throwing his Ole Miss visor into the Tennessee fan crowd to end the game.
