Landscape mode could finally be usable on Android 15

Android has received many changes over the past few years. While some focus on improving the user interface and overall functionality, others have strived to make it more user-friendly. A report now suggests that Android 15 could offer a better landscape mode experience on the lock screen and notifications panel. Here’s everything you need to know.

The problem with the current landscape lock screen layout is that there is a landscape lock screen layout in Android. As for the notifications panel, the space is not used to the maximum. If you’re getting tons of notifications, swiping up to scroll through them can sometimes close the notifications panel. Additionally, options like the brightness slider, user switcher, and other controls are missing in landscape mode.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority) said that he was able to enable Android 15’s upcoming landscape mode changes on both the lock screen and the notifications panel. This is what the notifications panel looks like (before and after) in landscape mode on an unlocked device.

This isn’t anything out of the ordinary, as custom UIs like Nothing OS, Oxygen OS and all major UIs have had better landscape notification layouts for years now, some have had it since inception . On the contrary, this change has been expected for years and we are happy that Google is finally tackling it.

Mishaal first spotted the UIs in the Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1 and QPR2 Beta 2 updates and said that the UIs were still not ready and contained bugs. The media player overlaps with the lock screen shortcut and the At a Glance widget. We hope that Google should fix these issues and prepare the changes until the stable version of Android 15.
