Lamborghini Revuelto versus Tesla Model S Plaid: fast but buggy

No matter how many universes there are, there isn’t one in which the Lamborghini Revuelto and Tesla Model S Plaid are rivals. The first is a V-12 supercar released last year. The latter is a more powerful version of an electric sedan that has been around since 2012. Despite obvious differences, the two aren’t that far apart in terms of straight-line acceleration.

Carwow lined them up for a series of drag races followed by rolling races and a brake test. While the Lambo was completely stock, the Plaid benefited from a few aftermarket upgrades to reflect the Track package offered by Tesla. The high-performance electric vehicle received beefier brakes, a lowered sports suspension and additional underbody panels to make it more slippery to aid top speed.

Even though the top-of-the-line Model S was the faster car overall, something else caught our attention. Both vehicles suffered from software issues, most of which were resolved the old-fashioned way by turning them off and on again. This is exactly why many people prefer older cars: fewer things that could break and leave you stranded on the side of the road.

Of course, there might be something wrong with both of these cars, so it wouldn’t be entirely fair to extrapolate. However, the more complex a modern vehicle is, the more likely it is to have problems, whether software or hardware. Make no mistake: the technology is great, as long as it works as advertised and the instrument cluster doesn’t light up like a Christmas tree.

When it comes to performance, it’s still fascinating to see how well the Model S can play in the big leagues despite being a 12-year-old car. With a starting price of around $88,000, the Plaid is almost seven times cheaper than the Revuelto. It doesn’t have the prestige of a car carrying the raging bull but it is a suitable weapon in a drag race.

However, the Plaid has recently found its match as the Lucid Air Sapphire is the new king of the hill among four-door EVs. It’s better to do it, considering it costs almost $250,000. The Taycan Turbo GT and the upcoming, hotter Audi RS E-Tron GT Performance also want a piece of this action.
