Lamborghini Biopic movie trailer features 350 GT, Miura and Countach

As the title suggests, Lamborghini: the man behind the legend is an upcoming biopic about the famous Italian industrialist and the creation of his supercar company. The trailer for the film is now available (above). The movie comes out on November 18, which means there’s a very brief wait to see how the movie tells this famous automotive tale.

The film stars Frank Grillo as Ferruccio Lamborghini. Judging by the trailer, the film offers a glimpse of his early life and success in producing agricultural equipment, like tractors. It made Lamborghini a lot of money, and he used some of it to buy the sports cars of the time.

Gabriel Byrne plays Enzo Ferrari. A clip from the trailer shows Lamborghini meeting Ferrari and suggesting a partnership between their companies. Enzo retaliates: “Go back to your tractors.”

The real-life story is allegedly a bit different. According to the biographies, Lamborghini complained about one of his Ferraris to Enzo, who responded with the tractor remark.

Regardless of how the argument turned out, Lamborghini responded by bringing its own grand tourer to market. The trailer shows the unveiling of the 350 GT at the Geneva Motor Show.

A particularly odd part of the trailer shows Lamborghini in a blue Countach racing Enzo in a red Ferrari Mondial. It’s hard to believe something like this happened in real life. When Ferrari launched the Mondial in 1980, Enzo was in his 80s. He died in 1988 at the age of 90.

Additionally, the Mondial has a V8 engine, versus the V12 in the Countach. These are not two models that compete with each other. The later 512 or Testarossa would have been a better comparison to the iconic Lamborghini vehicle.

Near the end of the trailer, Lamborghini draws the front of the Miura on a napkin. The next shot shows the car on the road.

Whether Lamborghini: the man behind the legend doesn’t sound appealing to you, another Italian automotive biopic is in the works. The film Ferrari tells the story of Enzo and is partly about the 1957 Mille Miglia race. Adam Driver plays the title character and Michael Mann directs. Look for the film to premiere in 2023.
