Kyle Walker took part in England’s training session on Tuesday and could be in line to play USA on Friday.

The Manchester City defender has been out of action since sustaining a groin injury in the Manchester derby on October 2.

Walker later underwent surgery to rectify the problem and was included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the World Cup, despite concerns over his appearance in the group stage.

The 32-year-old now appears to be in fine form and talkSPORT’s Faye Carruthers thinks he could be in the frame to return from injury on Friday night.

“I think he could play Walker,” Carruthers said after attending England’s training session in Qatar on Tuesday.

“Kyle Walker was warming up on the sideline on my right side last night [against Iran] and he just rubbed the top of his groin and looked uncomfortable at one point.

“I saw him today, he trained alongside the rest of the non-runners, all except James Maddison and Callum Wilson, and looked very good.

“Gareth Southgate – when I spoke to him a few days ago – said he was a few days ahead of the schedule they had for him and maybe he could wait for the final. [group] game depending on what happens against the United States.

“But if he’s up front and ready to play, then why not play him?”

Meanwhile, James Maddison has missed training again as he continues to receive treatment for a knee injury picked up in Leicester City’s game against West Ham ten days ago.

The 25-year-old has been included in Southgate’s squad after a string of strong performances for the Foxes but his participation in Qatar remains uncertain.

England are top of Group B after the first round of fixtures after losing 6-2 to Iran.

Wales’ 1-1 draw with the United States means a victory for the Three Lions on Friday would guarantee a safe passage to the knockout stages where they face a Group A qualifier.

One of the Netherlands, Senegal, Qatar or Ecuador would stand in the way of England should they qualify for the knockout stage.
