“Kill me” – Rob McElhenney is all football fans as Wrexham win back-to-back promotions

Wrexham will play League One football next season after recording back-to-back promotions.

The Welsh side returned to the EFL after a 15-year absence last season when they won the National League title, meaning they faced the challenge of adapting to life at a higher level.

It was a breeze, with the Red Dragons securing automatic promotion – along with Stockport County – with two games remaining.

Wrexham’s journey has truly been a fairy tale after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover of the club in November 2020, with the club on a meteoric rise since then.

The club knew that a victory over Forest Green Rovers – with MK Dons losing points and Barrow losing – would see them go back up, which looked a strong possibility at half-time with the Welsh side leading 4-0 .

Co-owner McElhenney was all fans at halftime as he tried to determine whether Wrexham was up or not, sharing a hilarious image from his hit show “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.”

But things got even better for Wrexham in the second half as a 6-0 victory was enough to delight the Racecourse.

Neither Reynolds nor McElhenney were in attendance to see their club promoted to League One, something one fan pointed out on social media.

In response to the post, McElhenney simply replied: “You’re killing me.”

Wrexham look unlikely to win the League Two title with Stockport four points ahead of them with three games remaining, down from two.

Wrexham won 5-0 to earn their place in League One for next season

But with the now world-famous club moving through the football pyramid, I’m sure they won’t mind.
