“Because we had done it on [The Kelly Clarkson Show],” the american idol The winner continued, “and I was like, ‘God, this song is amazing,’ and I love that I have to change it up and put my own spin on it. I cover it all the time, I love its music. Just a really good songwriter. And even the vibe of the songs, their team is so good. So I was pretty sure I wanted to do that one and that one went viral so the ones that we know the fans love, we obviously went there too.
However, it turns out the recording process behind its next release – an as yet untitled sequel from 2021 When Christmas comes… — was not so easy for The voice coach.
“That was the hardest thing to navigate,” Clarkson explained. “I have never had such a difficult project. It’s one of those things where I’m a human and I’m going through something huge. Of course everyone is going through a huge divorce [from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock] went through, and it’s been, like, two years and it’s not easy with children, especially it makes it a whole different dynamic.
“Even how I said ‘Happier Than Ever’, Billie’s song, that song I’m sure means a whole bunch of different things to her,” she continued. “But the domino effect of her coming out and how it affects so many other people, because those are the songs when you’re being completely honest and you’re angry and you’re sad and you’re hurt. And all of those things, that equation makes the best songs. So I’m only browsing what I’m comfortable posting.
Meanwhile, Clarkson’s last non-holiday outing was from 2017 The meaning of lifewhich debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and contained lead single “Love So Soft”, as well as singles like “I Don’t Think About You”, “Would You Call That Love”, and “Medicine”.
