When it comes to her role as a judge on American Idol, Katy Perry has proven time and time again that she can pull off a sense of humor, even when she herself is the subject of the joke. The 37-year-old singer-songwriter hilariously addressed a contestant who sang John Mayer, her ex-boyfriend’s song in Idols.
This funny moment comes after the star split his pants on national television not too long ago.
Katy Perry made a sarcastic comment when American Idol contestant Noah Thompson sang Mayer’s “Heartbreak Warfare.” As a judge for the pageant, Katy advised Thompson to check information about her on Wikipedia to avoid such a situation in the future. The 37-year-old songwriter said: “I feel like maybe you should Wikipedia me.”
The participant had no idea that she was in a relationship with John Mayer, which resulted in a very awkward situation! In the episode featuring the Top 11 performances, contestants had to choose between three songs chosen by the three judges.

American Idol judge Luke Bryan actually picked the song. He admitted raising his hands as he stood up. Katy joked, “Who’s going to pay for my extra hour of therapy?” After jokingly claiming she was “triggered”. She also stumbled to the ground jokingly expressing how she felt.
Perry agreed that Thompson’s rendition of the song was excellent. She admitted that despite his past with John, he makes great music. She told Noah, “Honestly, you sounded good.” “It’s a great song.”
On Idol, Thompson was one of 10 contestants who advanced to the next round.
Relationship between Katy Perry and John Mayer
Perry and John Mayer were publicly together from 2012 until around 2015 (with a few breakups in between). They appeared together at several public events, including when Mayer stood alongside his then-girlfriend during her historic Super Bowl halftime performance in 2015.
They combined their musical talents, dueting to the tune “Who You Love”. The former couple also co-wrote the song “Spiritual” and created widespread speculation that the tracks on their individual albums drew inspiration from each other. Mayer admitted that Perry inspired at least one of his songs. He said The New York Times in 2017 that Katy’s song “Still Feel Like Your Man” came from inspiration.
Despite the history between the stars, the conversation was entirely in banter since Perry and Mayer seemed to have ended on good terms after all. John, in particular, occasionally shares their formal relationship. In 2021, he even called himself “Katy Perry’s first gentleman” on “Radio Andy”. He also stated that he has no negative feelings towards his ex-girlfriends.
