Eeven though Katy Perry released his song “Black Horse” nearly a decade ago, the song’s lyrics were questioned and the singer was called insensitive and disrespectful by some fans.
“Black Horse” was published in 2013 by Katy Perry and it included Juicy J as well. In one of his lines, the rapper evokes a serial killer Jeffrey Dahmerwhose crimes are now a trending topic thanks to by Netflix new Serie “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”.
What do the lyrics to “Dark Horse” say?
Juicy J sing a line in “Black Horse” who reads :“She’s a beast/ I call her Karma/ She eats your heart like Jeffrey Dahmer”.
Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer who claimed the lives of 17 people between 1978 and 1991 in the Milwaukee Region.
He murdered men and boys, and even admitted to eating the flesh of some of his victims after dismembering them, earning him the nickname Milwaukee Monster or the Milwaukee Cannibal.
In social media, some users showed sympathy for the families of the victims and called Perry’s disrespectful song, with others claiming that Juicy J was sick of blackmailing young children Dahmer name with Katy Perry also sharing the blame for allowing it on his song.
by Jeffrey Dahmer the name is also featured in the lyrics of Marilyn Manson, Kesha Where Eminem.
This is not the first controversy for “Dark Horse”
In 2014, less than a year after “Black Horse” has been freed, Katy Perry was sued by a rapper for stealing his 2009 Christian rap song to make this hit, violating his copyright.
And even if a jury returned a verdict against Perry and his associates, a federal judge would then overturn the jury’s verdict years later.
“It is undisputed in this case, even considering the evidence in the light most favorable to the plaintiffs, that the signature elements of the eight-note ostinato in ‘Joyful Noise’ is not a particularly unique or rare combination” , U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder expressed on his decision.
The song had spent four weeks at No. 1 in the Billboard’s Hot 100 list that year.
