Katy Perry sent a message this holiday weekend to express frustration with the Roe v. Wade – but all Twitter wants to do is point out what it considers hypocrisy.
The singer tweeted on Monday about the 4th of July and what it means to her following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark decision … effectively banning abortions almost immediately in several states across the country, and d others to come.
“Baby, you’re fireworks” is a 10, but women in the United States have less rights than a real sparkler.

@Katy Perry
She sarcastically writes, “‘Baby you’re fireworks’ is a 10 but women in the US have less rights than a real sparkly smh” – clearly referencing her 2010 song of the same name.
NBD, or so you’d think…rather than being praised for her pro-choice sentiment here – as a lot of celebs have been lately – Katy is actually being trained endlessly right now. And it all has to do with who she publicly supported the mayor of LA… aka, Rick Caruso.
As we reported… KP was one of many celebrities who have endorsed the billionaire entrepreneur and property developer running for mayor. And even if he didn’t win the June election, he has a chance of winning in November in a runoff with Rep. Karen Bass.
The problem… Caruso, who calls himself a Dem, has been seen as wishy-washy about his stance on abortion over the years, or so old interviews from the 2000s suggest. Until recently… Rick was a Republican and has donated to many GOPers, including people who say they want abortion rights – which He was called later.
As your mayor, I will vigorously protect a woman’s right to choose. Reproductive freedom is a fundamental human right and any threat to this freedom endangers all women, especially the most vulnerable in our society. #CarusoCan pic.twitter.com/i3pR7XNRTt

Now he says he’s pro-choice and brags about being an advocate for women’s rights. Unfortunately for him (and for Katy, it seems)… Twitter isn’t buying it, and they tell Katy to sit this one due to her very vocal support for him.
She’s far from the only celebrity to have backed Caruso, though – Kim Kardashian was also behind him in the run-up to the election last month…but she seems to have wisely dodged Twitter to lament abortion lately.
Instead, she voiced her displeasure via IG Stories – where random people can’t comment on or sue her as easily as they could on the old Bird app. Smart move with hindsight.
