Fans around the world keep waiting for Kanye West to deliver his next album Donda, which was expected over a week ago but never came to fruition after the rapper previewed it to tens of thousands of attendees at an in-person event at Mercedes Benz Atlanta Stadium. While the project was pushed back to early August, the musician has a new Hot 100 hit under his belt this week, and it’s special for the star.
West scores another Hot 100 smash on this week’s chart alongside Pop Smoke and Pusha T, as all three hip-hop talents are credited on ‘Tell The Vision’, which opens at No.49 The cup is the elusive Grammy winner. One hundred and tenth place on the overall list, and with just one more victory included in his discography, the pioneering artist has broken with one of the greatest and best who ever lived.
With 110 Hot 100 appearances to his name, West is finally overtaking Elvis Presley. The two were tied until this week at 109 apiece, but that is no longer the case. While some of Presley’s biggest hits predated the creation of the Hot 100, the rocker still managed to score triple-figure wins. During his active years after creating the most significant song count in the U.S. market (and since his passing), he sent 109 tracks to the roster, with only a handful of posthumous tracks increasing his numbers since his death.
West is now the male musician with the fourth biggest Hot 100 hits of all time. He comes behind only Drake (235), Lil Wayne (174) and Future (124), who also sees his career explode thanks to a report on the last Smoke album. Looking at all the artists, West is in seventh place.
“Tell The Vision” is one of eight songs from Smoke’s new posthumous album Faith this debut on the Hot 100 this week, and it manages to beat everything else, starting higher than any other track from the late rapper. Faith opens at No.1 on the Billboard 200, giving the Grammy nominee his second leader after his death.
Every time West finally delivers Dondahe’ll likely collect several more Hot 100 hits, and depending on how well the ensemble performs in its first uptime streak and how many cuts make it up the leaderboard, the rapper could overtake his next closest competitor, Nicki Minaj. As of now, the hip-hop titan has recorded 119 Hot 100 smashes.
