The Kansas basketball team could be without Arterio Morris this season after his indefinite suspension. These are our first thoughts on the situation.
According to the Kansas City Star, there are rape allegations regarding Kansas Jayhawks transfer guard Arterio Morris. The incident reportedly occurred at McCarthy Hall and he was suspended from the program as a result.
His first season at Texas was disappointing. The former top-ranked high school point guard played in all 38 games for the Longhorns, averaging 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds. He was highly coveted after entering the transfer portal and committed to Kansas in April. But with the recent allegations, it’s possible he won’t play a regular season game wearing the crimson and blue.
Losing Morris would be a major blow to a Kansas basketball team that is expected to open the preseason as the consensus No. 1 prospect in the country. He was part of a transfer class that included Hunter Dickinson, one of the best big men in the country. Kansas is also recruiting top 40 high school recruits in Elmarko Jackson and Johnny Furphy.
While the return of three starters from last year’s first-place team in the NCAA Tournament is promising, we’d be lying if we said it didn’t impact the upcoming season. Morris was one of the team’s best players during its weeklong excursion to Puerto Rico, and he’s no stranger to Big 12 basketball after competing in the conference a year prior.
